Ambitious Students At Inspiring Event

||
More than 600 Ashfield pupils visited the Festival Hall, in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, on Thursday 10th March to investigate a wide range of career options, and raise their aspirations, at 'Ambitious in Ashfield'.

In its seventh year, the 'Ambitious in Ashfield' event was organised by the Regeneration Section at Ashfield District Council for secondary school students, mainly from Year 10.

Aimed at stimulating a culture of enterprise by providing an insight into a range of business sectors, career opportunities and self-employment activity, this was the biggest event of its type so far in Ashfield.

A wide range of employers, both local and national, were represented at the event, including Ashfield District Council, RAF, Royal Navy, Notts Fire & Rescue Service, Police, Institute of Legal Executive, ASDA, Construction Industry Council, East Midlands Airport, LEO and NBV.

Colleges were also at the event providing details on vocational courses, apprenticeships and work-based learning and ‘A’ Levels, to help students plan their future career paths.

The ‘Creative Industries Corner’ highlighted some of the many careers in this growing sector, including drama, dance, art, ceramics, gaming, audio, filming and photography.

Frank Horsley, Head of Community and Economic Promotion said: “The future prosperity and growth of the Ashfield economy is a key driver for Ashfield District Council and ensuring our young people have the information and aspiration to help them prosper is fundamental to this aim. We want to provide the conditions for young people to realise their potential and their dreams. We also want them to know that they can do this without moving away from the District.”
