New Nest Boxes For Local Nature Area

||
Date: 2 March 2011

Local adults with learning difficulties have crafted beautiful bird boxes for a new nature area at Roundhills Recreation Ground in Sutton thanks to a partnership project.

Ashfield District Council teamed up with Enable Housing Association's JT Project, which gives adults with learning difficulties training and experience in work-type activities.

Pupils from Croft Primary School joined the Chairman of Ashfield District Council to see the new boxes and the nature area.

The nature area contains a variety of trees which are attractive to wildlife, including birch, crab apple, and oak. A circular walk on the outside of the tree area will be made by the regular mowing of the grass ,along with the creation a central sheltered woodland glade for butterflies.

Councillor Mick Parker, Chairman of Ashfield District Council, said: “The work is part of his continuing commitment to improving the park and maintaining all open spaces and fields around the Junction estate for the benefit of people and wildlife.”
