Kingsmill Reservoir Conservation Work

||
Date: 3rd October, 2011

As part of Ashfield District Council's continuing commitment to improving green spaces around the district, it has teamed up with the national environmental conservation charity BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers) to undertake pollarding work to some willow trees at Kingsmill Reservoir in Sutton-in-Ashfield.
BTCV in Nottinghamshire encourages people to get involved in conservation activities and make a difference to their environment. They have been undertaking the work as part of the Council’s management plan for the reservoir, which aims to manage the willows for the benefit of bird species such as the Willow tit.

The work is to be complemented by a range of footpath improvements around the reservoir, which will take place in October, to improve access for visitors and local residents.

Councillor May Barsby, Chairman of Ashfield District Council said: “We are very pleased to be working in partnership with the BTCV. As a Council we are constantly seeking to improve our green spaces for the benefit of our residents and visitors.”
