Hundreds of local people gathered to see the launch of a redeveloped community park on Saturday 24th September.
Morven Park in Kirkby-in-Ashfield has been revamped thanks to the hard work of local volunteers, Ashfield District Council
and Rexco UK Ltd. The project has been funded through Section 106 funding from Ashfield District Council and grant funding
from Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd (WREN).
Many residents and local councillors came along to the park including Councillor Gibbons, Councillor Nuttall and Council Leader, Councillor John Knight.
The park was given its official opening with an opening speech from Councillor Nuttall and blessed by Graham Bell from Ashwood Church which has also been actively involved in the project.
So far, residents have been very positive about the new park. One local lady commented: “The park is so much better now and I have never seen it so busy. I used to be able to get my child home from school in ten minutes but now it takes nearly an hour because of all the new equipment!”
There will be a public meeting for local residents taking place on Wednesday 5th October at 6:30pm at 'The Centre' next to Morven Park Primary School. It is hoped that a friends group will be established to work together with the Council to deliver further improvements on the park.
Councillor Warren Nuthall said: “The launch has been fantastic and it’s made the hard work of the residents, the Landscape Team at Ashfield District Council, Ashwood Church and the contractors all worth it. It’s wonderful to see the park being used and as a Council we are aware of the importance of outdoor activities and quality green spaces.”
