How is my rate bill calculated?

calculatorThe rates payable are calculated by the council by multiplying the rateable value by the rate in the pound (also known as the "rate multiplier"). This is known as the notional chargeable amount.

The Local Authority then calculates whether Transitional Relief Arrangements apply and adjusts the demand level accordingly.

All monies due in respect of National Non-Domestic Rates (NNDR) must be forwarded each month by the Council to Central Government. Funds are then redistributed to each Local Authority on a "per head of population" basis.

The Authority's only role in this matter is as a collection agency for Central Government and as such has no input or discretion over the amount charged.
