Support Agencies
||There are a number of agencies whose aim is to improve the regional economic climate. East Midlands Development Agency is one of nine Regional Development Agencies in England set up in 1999 to bring a regional focus to economic development. They are responsible for developing a Regional Economic Strategy which is then implemented by the sub-regional strategic partnerships (SSP).
The primary role of each SSP is to help deliver the Regional Economic Strategy (RES) at a local level through partnership working, whilst also encouraging, developing and supporting new initiatives and projects that address the specific economic needs of their respective sub-regions.
In addition to the RES, each SSP produces its own Sub-regional Economic Strategy (SRES), outlining their overarching strategy and vision for their own geographical areas. These address the recognised needs and priorities within each individual sub-region, and also take into account the wider environmental and social agendas to ensure sustainability.
