Health and safety at work - regulation and inspection
||The main activities of our work include programmed risk based inspections at premises, accident investigations, investigation of complaints concerning Health and Safety at work, advice and information. As with food safety, inspections are carried out on a routine basis, without prior notification and the high risk premises are visited more frequently.
During an inspection, Officers will need to be satisfied that any hazards to people's health, safety and welfare, which arise out of or in connection with work, have been identified and the associated risks adequately controlled. They will look at the level of health and safety training of managers and employees to ensure that it is suitable. Checks will also be made on the adequacy of structural and environmental conditions and that the plant and equipment are safe.
Where work practices or conditions are deemed unsatisfactory the council will investigate and may undertake enforcement action . Please select this link for more information regarding this work.
Self Inspection Pack
We have produced a self-inspection pack for all businesses to assist them to comply with legislation. This pack contains advice on best practice, and contains the main work activities and risks in the workplace. However, the information in this pack is not exhaustive and further advice and information is available from our officers. The self-inspection pack may be of particular benefit to lower risk premises which are not included in our risk based inspection programme
