The Brownie Guides

Brownie Guides have fun! Their
meetings are full of activities and include suggestions from the Brownies themselves. There are opportunities for them to
learn new and practical skills and by taking part in games they discover how to be part of a team. Brownies can earn badges
for doing their best to meet special Challenges. They can also work for a wide range of interest badges.
As well as the weekly meeting during term time, there may also be special activities and events at the weekend or during school holidays. The highlight of the year is often the Brownie holiday or camp.
Many of the activities aim to develop each girl at a pace which suits her and are based on the Eight Point Programme followed by all Guides in The Guide Association. This is adapted to suit each girl's age and ability. The Eight Point Programme for Brownie Guides is:
Brownies are wide awake.
Brownies keep healthy.
Brownies do their best.
Brownies have fun out-of-doors.
Brownies help at home.
Brownies make things.
Brownies
lend a hand.
Brownies are
friendly.
Brownie Guides are usually aged between seven and ten, although some Brownies stay in the Pack until they are a little bit older. Any girl over the age of seven can become a Brownie Guide as long as she is able to understand, and wants to make, the Brownie Guide Promise.
The Brownie Guide Promise
"I promise that I will
do my best:
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country,
To help other people and to keep the Brownie
Law."
The Brownie Guide Law
A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself and does a Good
Turn every day.
The Brownie Guide Motto
Lend A Hand.
Brownies belong to a Pack and work in small groups called Sixes. Sixes can have names such as Elves, Pixies and Gnomes. This gives each girl a group of ready-made friends to take care of her. It also makes her feel that she belongs to something special.
