Dog Low Cost Spaying and Neutering Service
||In an attempt to reduce the number of strays, unplanned litters and ultimately the number of unwanted dogs which have to be put to sleep or re-homed, Ashfield District Council and the veterinary practices detailed in this leaflet are offering financial assistance towards the cost of neutering or spaying of your dog.
If you are a householder (owner or tenant) in Ashfield, own a dog and hold a Passport to Ashfield Services, you will be eligible for assistance; worth up to two-thirds off the normal charge for a spaying or neutering operation.
To obtain a Passport to Services, which offers discounts on many services provided by Ashfield District Council and also many other businesses in and around Ashfield, you must be in receipt of one of the following benefits:-
- On Income Support
- Working Families Tax Credit
- Disability Working Allowance
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Benefit
- In Full Time Education
- On or Awaiting a Government Training Scheme
- Dependent Partners of the Above
Passports currently cost £2.35 and are valid for the year from April to the following March - and are then renewable providing you still qualify.
To apply:
- Apply for a Passport to Ashfield Services
- Fill in the neutering application form. (This is not the same as the application for a Passport to Services)
- Take it or send it with details of your dog or bitch to the Council Offices, Urban Road, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottingham, East Midlands, NG17 8DA. Please ensure that you have enclosed the fee.
What happens next?
- A voucher will be issued which details your entitlement to the Service.
- Make an appointment with your chosen veterinary practice. Please click here for a list of participating vets.
- Take the voucher to the vet who will examine your dog or bitch and arrange for the operation to be carried out. The vet will advise you of the cost of the operation when you make your appointment. The scheme covers the spaying or neutering operation, initial examination and aftercare.
Your vet may insist that the dog is vaccinated if this has not already been done. You will be responsible for the additional cost and for taking the dog to and from the surgery.
