Do I Need To Apply?
||Building Regulations
The regulations apply to various types of building work and set standards for the design and construction of buildings to ensure the safety and health for people in or about those buildings. They also include requirements to ensure that fuel and power is conserved and facilities are provided for people, including those with disabilities, to access and move around inside buildings.
Guidance on Building Regulations for a semi-detached or terrace house is available on the Planning Portal.
You need to apply for Building Regulation permission to carry out most types of building work, but there are some exceptions. Find out what works are exempt.
Some examples of work that would need Building Regulation approval are:-
- New buildings (residential and non domestic)
- Re-roofing with a heavier or (in some cases) lighter tile
- Loft conversions
- Underpinning a building
- Internal alterations that affect means of escape
- Structural alterations
- Extensions
