Issues and Options
||For a copy of all the comments recieved during this consultation and Ashfield's response to the comments download the document Issues and Options Consultation Responses Report and the Issues and Options Consultation Discussions Report.
This Issues and Options consultation is the first stage in preparing a Core Strategy for Ashfield.
We have identified the main issues facing the district and the options available to address those issues. What we need to
know is whether these are the right issues, whether there are issues that we've missed, which options are the best and whether
there are any other options. No decisions have yet been made and now is the chance for you to influence the future of Ashfield.
You may remember that the Council previously consulted in 2006 on Issues and Options for Ashfield. Since then the Regional Plan, which guides local decision making, advises that we work more closely with the local authorities that make up Greater Nottingham (Broxtowe, Erewash, Gedling, Nottingham City and Rushcliffe). We have decided to re-consult on new issues and options, to come up with a Core Strategy that is closely aligned to the Greater Nottingham councils, helping to make sure that boundaries do not get in the way of good service delivery.
The Issues and Options consider ten different themes, each of which has been published as a separate leaflet and a questionnaire to give you the opportunity to express your opinion and suggest other options. Alternatively, you can download the complete document and questionnaire from the bottom of this page.
The document and questionnaire are also available to view online
Accommodating GrowthDownload leaflet and questionnaire for Accommodating Growth The East Midlands Regional Plan requires us to plan for thousands of new homes in Ashfield up to 2026. This leaflet is all about where we should put those homes. Particular issues discussed include whether we should allow any development in the rural areas or whether we should concentrate development around the towns. | Nottingham-Derby Green Belt and CountrysideDownload leaflet and questionnaire for Green Belt and Countryside In order to accommodate thousands of new homes we need to find a huge amount of land. This leaflet talks about the possibility of this new development being in the Green Belt or in the Countryside and considers how the protection of Green Belt and Countryside compares to the protection of open spaces in urban areas. | RegenerationDownload leaflet and questionnaire for Regeneration The Council already has policies to try and address some of the major issues in Ashfield. We need to know if there are particular parts of Ashfield that should be a priority for regeneration. This leaflet discusses the issues involved in the regeneration of Ashfield. |
Economy and Employment LandDownload leaflet and questionnaire for Economy & Employment Land New development means an increased population and more people needing jobs. A key theme for the Ashfield economy will be the growth of the service sector. This leaflet talks about where those jobs can go and what type of jobs we should encourage them to be. | The Role of Nottingham City and Town CentresDownload leaflet and questionnaire for Nottingham City & Town Centres Ashfield has several village and town centres, many of which are influenced by Ashfield's close proximity to Nottingham City. This leaflet talks about the direction that we should encourage our centres to go in and the role that Nottingham City should have. | Neighbourhoods and Place ShapingDownload leaflet and questionnaire for Neighbourhoods & Place Shaping Some standards are already in place to try and achieve new houses that people really want to live in. This topic talks about whether we should make developers follow those standards, as well as asking what approach should be taken to affordable housing, the mix of housing and providing community facilities. |
Transport and AccessibilityDownload leaflet and questionnaire for Transport and Accessibility Congestion in Ashfield is getting worse. This theme is about how we can tackle congestion through encouraging alternatives to the car and whether these should be a greater priority. | New Infrastructure to Support GrowthDownload leaflet and questionnaire for New Infrastructure Developers already provide infrastructure such as parks through Planning Obligations but this system has been heavily criticised. This leaflet asks whether we should continue with the current system or adopt something new. | Green Infrastructure and Landscape CharacterDownload leaflet and questionnaire for Green Infrastructure and Landscape Character A network of green spaces for both wildlife habitats and recreational use is the aim. This leaflet discusses what approach we might use to achieve that aim. |
Summary LeafletA short leaflet about the Development framework process and timetable and where the Issues and Options sits within it. | Climate ChangeDownload leaflet and questionnaire for Climate Change Climate Change will affect everyone and may lead to increased flooding.
