Ashfield Conservation Areas

||
A Conservation Area is a special place that has been identified because of architectural or historical importance.

The designation allows the Authority greater control over any proposed developments, so such sites are able to keep their original charm and character.

Ashfield has 4 conservation Areas:

Lower Bagthorpe Conservation Area

Teversal Conservation Area

Kirkby Cross Conservation Area

Annesley Conservation Area

Special controls exist with regard to demolition of buildings, advertisements and the like within the Conservation Area. Listed Building Consent must also be obtained for any demolition, even if the building is not itself listed. Similarly, trees are treated more or less as if they were subject to a Tree Preservation Order. To work on trees within a Conservation Area a landowner needs to give six weeks notice in writing to Ashfield District Council.

The Planning Policy and Projects Section are responsible for appraising and updating Conservation Areas.
