Sustainability Appraisal
||In order to ensure the future development of Ashfield is sustainable we carry out an assessment called a 'Sustainability Appraisal' (SA).
Sustainability Appraisal is a process which examines the social, environmental and economic effects of the strategies and policies in a local development document to ensure that the decisions that are made accord with sustainable development. By checking the options contained in the Ashfield Development Framework documents against sustainability objectives, a comparison can be made to see which of the various options performed the best in sustainability terms.
Sustainability Appraisals should:
- Take a long term view of the expected social, economic and environmental effects of a proposed plan;
- Check that sustainability objectives are turned into sustainable planning policies;
- Reflect global, national, regional and local concerns; and
- Form an integral part of all stages of plan preperation.
The SA report should be read in conjunction with the relevant LDF document it is appraising.
The Sustainabilty Appraisal for the Preferred OptionThe Sustainabilty Appraisal for the Preferred Option has been produced which gives a broad picture of the sustainability impacts for each option laid out in the Preferred Option document at the present time. It is not intended to be a scoring system which ranks options in order of suitability. Download the Sustainability

The Scoping Report for the Sustainability AppraisalThe Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report (June 2009) identified the key sustainability issues that are affecting the District. These have been separated into social, economic, environmental, and spatial issues, although there is inevitably overlap between them. For example certain issues, such as climate change, have environmental, economic, social and spatial implications. Download the Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report – June 2009 | ||||
