Different Types of Planning Permission

The main types of planning permission are as follows:

houseFull Planning Permission

You should apply for full planning permission if you intend to:-

houseOutline Planning Permission

This is when you need to know whether planning permission will be given for the erection of buildings prior to any detailed drawings being prepared.

Under outline planning permission you have the option to Reserve Matters relating to design, external appearance, access, landscaping and siting for later approval. See question 6 on the Application for Planning Permission Part 1 form.

If an item is not reserved you will need to supply adequate details of those matters.

houseApproval of Reserved Matters

This is when you wish to apply for Reserved Matters relating to a previous outline permission (see above). You will need to state on the application, the original outline permission reference and the date the permission was granted.

The original outline permission will lapse if the reserved matters have not been submitted to the Authority within the stipulated time limit.

houseOther Types of Planning Permission

There are other types of planning permissions, which relate to specific types of development such as listed buildings, advertisements, etc.
