Conservation Areas
||A Conservation Area is an area that has been identified as an area of special architectural or historic importance, the character of which is desirable to preserve or enhance.
Any development in conservation areas, including extensions and modifications of existing buildings as well as the construction of new buildings must be done so it complements the aesthetic qualities of the area.
Conservation Area Planning applications
Special controls exist with regard to demolition of buildings, advertisements etc. within the Conservation Area. Conservation Area Consent must also be obtained for any demolition, even if the building is not itself listed. If you are planning a development in the Conservation Area which affects trees, then a planning application for works to trees needs to be submitted. To work on trees within a Conservation Area, a landowner needs to give six weeks notice. See our online forms section of the website or the Planning Portal for submitting your application.
