Pollution control - Asbestos
||
Common locations of asbestos include:
- cement garage or shed roofs or wall panels
- cement drainpipes
- cement on insulation board soffit, infill panels and partitions.
- cement on the side of bath panels
You must assume that any asbestos is potentially lethal and handle it with extreme care.
Ashfield District Council's Environmental Health section can provide further advice about the risks of asbestos.
What to do if you have asbestos in your home
The general rule is to always leave asbestos
alone – it's usually safe unless damaged or disturbed. Indoor materials should be painted with an alkali-resistant paint such
as PVA emulsion. Never sand, drill or saw asbestos materials.
Always seek advice before removing asbestos. Do not attempt to remove asbestos lagging, spray coatings or large areas of insulation board by yourself; these materials can only be removed by a licensed contractor.
Asbestos Waste Removal
Residents can take their own asbestos to a Nottingham disposal site on pre-arrangements with Nottinghamshire County Council arranged by calling their Customer Services Centre on 08449 808080.
