Street Litter Bins

||
Litter in a public place is unsightly, dangerous to animals, and an offence under The Environmental Protection Act 1990.

An Ashfield District Council litter binLitter ranges in size from a single sweet wrapper to a bag full of rubbish. The Environmental Protection Act of 1990 states that if a person drops, throws, deposits, or leaves anything that causes defacement in a public place, they are committing a littering offence. Always try to use a litter bin or take your rubbish home.

There are approximately 700 litter bins within the Ashfield District. Each bin is emptied at least once per week with many high-use bins being emptied daily. The majority of bins installed are dual-purpose bins which can also be used for bagged dog waste. A dual-purpose bin will be identified as such by a sticker.

A lack of a bin is no defence to the offence of dropping litter or cleaning up after your dog. Fixed penalty notices are issued to culprits who do not use the bins provided.

To report a problem with a litter bin or to request a litter bin at a new location, please contact Street Cleansing or report the issue online.
