'Recycling' Wheelie Bin
The ‘recycling' wheelie bin is for all of your paper, card, cardboard, plastic bottles, yogurt pots, margarine tubs, food tins and drinks cans. For a more concise list select this link or click on the image on the right.
All the Council asks is that the bottles and drink cans are empty and the food tins are rinsed out.
All of the items need to be placed in the wheelie bin loose, not in plastic bags. Plastic bags cause problems at the recycling plants as they become wrapped around the moving parts on the conveyor belts. A member of staff at the plant also has to manually empty the bags as the machines can not sort the contents.
Important Notice Regarding Contaminated ‘Green-Lidded’ Wheelie Bins.
From the 1st January 2007, Ashfield District Council has a Recycling Enforcement Policy. Should the Council find any ‘green-lidded’ wheelie bins contaminated, formal enforcement action will be taken.

Where Does The Council Take Your Recyclable Material To?
The Council delivers the recyclable materials to a Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Mansfield.
At the MRF the items are sorted using a process of machinery. Once the items have been sorted they are baled and then taken to the recycling reprocessors who then commence the recycling process.
