Well the simple message is to eat a well balanced diet with a variety of different foods
There are 5 food groups which are:
Bread, cereals and potatoes
Fruit and vegetables
Milk and Dairy
Meat,
Fish and Alternatives
Foods containing Fat; Foods and Drinks containing Sugar.
The Balance of Good Health
Eat
plenty of fruit and vegetables. Aim to eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
1 portion = 1 apple 1 pear 1 banana
1 peach
1 portion = salad 1 small bowl
1 portion = vegetables 2 large tablespoons
1 portion = 2 plums 2 kiwi
3 apricots
1 portion = 1 glass of fruit juice (for breakfast)
Don't eat too many foods that contain a lot of fat.
Spread butter or margarine sparingly on toast, bread, crumpets.
Try low fat versions of yoghurts, semi-skimmed or skimmed
milk. Low fat cheese.
Cut excess fat off meat, remove the skin from poultry.
Try not to sprinkle salt on your meal
if you have used salt in the cooking process.
Try a healthy seasoning freshly ground black pepper, lemon juice, wine
or balsamic vinegar, herbs, spices, garlic, onions.
Try to eat 2 portions of fish a week to maintain a Healthy Heart.
Don't
have sugary foods and drinks too often as they can contribute to tooth decay.
We need to take care of our teeth!!!!!!
It is very important to keep our body hydrated therefore drink 6-8 glasses of water a day.
Don't just fry foods, change
your method of cookery.
Steam, Bake, Poach, Grill, Stir-Fry try new ways.
