Ashfield District Council aim to provide a friendly and efficient service to all those who choose to use Local Authority Building Control.

Submitting an application

On submission of an application, the details will be checked promptly and we will notify you of any further information required as soon as possible.

Full Plans applications will be checked for compliance with the Building Regulations within the statutory period of five weeks (eight weeks if you agree). We will however endeavour to check all domestic applications within two weeks of submission.

As part of the service and where necessary, a schedule will be sent to you or your agent highlighting aspects of the design that do not appear to comply with the Building Regulations. When all details are considered acceptable, an approval or conditional approval will be issued.

Building Notices will be accepted within five working days, enabling an early commencement on site for minor works.

Pre-application meetings

Building Control will meet you or your agent on site to discuss your proposals prior to submitting an application. This service has proved useful in the past, since we are able to give impartial advice on various ways of satisfying the requirements of the Building Regulations.

Officers are usually available from 8.30am – 10.15am and 2.00pm – 4.00pm. Where necessary, appointments can be made outside these times to suit your needs.
