Handyperson Service
||Who can get it?
Applicants must be over 60 years of age or disabled. If you are a private tenant, the works must be those which are your responsibility (as opposed to your landlord's).
Is it a Grant or a Loan, and is it Repayable?
This service is neither a grant nor a loan, but the Council subsidises the cost of the service.
Does the applicant have to pay for any of the works?
Yes. There is an hourly rate plus a charge for materials. The cost is reduced if you are in receipt of one of a number of means-tested benefits. These are currently:
- Attendance Allowance
- Council Tax Benefit
- Disability Living Allowance
- Disabled Person's Tax Credit
- Guaranteed Pension Credit
- Housing Benefit
- Income-based job seekers allowance
- Income Support
- Industrial Injuries Disablement
- War Disablement Pension
- Working Tax Credit
You will be advised of the cost to you before you decide to use the Service.
