National Insurance Credits
||
You
will usually get credit of a National Insurance (NI) contribution for every week you get Jobseeker's Allowance. Credits are
awarded automatically.
You may also get credits if you satisfy the conditions for Jobseeker's Allowance, but do not get it because:
- you have not paid enough contributions
- you have received your full entitlement of contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance already
- your income is too high for you to get income-based Jobseeker's Allowance.
You will not get credits if you are:
- a married woman or widow who has chosen to pay a reduced rate of NI contributions
- receiving a reduced rate of Jobseeker's Allowance under the hardship provisions.
If your Jobseeker's Allowance claim has been disallowed because of a payment from your previous employment, you may be able to get credits for the period of disallowance.
Your Employment Service Adviser will help you if you need any advice about credits.
