Hidden Valleys
||
The Hidden Valleys is built around the bustling market town of Hucknall and the quaint surrounding villages of Jacksdale, Underwood, Bagthorpe, Selston, Annesley, Ravenshead, Newstead, Linby and Papplewick.
The area boasts a fascinating heritage and great places of interest. All this, coupled with our literary heritage, makes the Hidden Valleys an attractive place to visit for all the family.
The Hidden Valleys boast miles of way-marked rural walks, cycle paths and bridleways and contain fascinating sites of natural, industrial and cultural heritage, nestled amongst wooded areas and open countryside.
Specifically you will find Newstead Abbey, several ancient village churches, Papplewick Pumping Station, Annesley Hall, Longdale Craft Centre, Jacksdale Garden Centre, Felley Priory and the ruins of Wansley Hall amongst many other attractions. Walk leaflets are available by contacting Ashfield District Council on 01623 450000 or via email: tourism@ashfield-dc.gov.uk or you can download a pdf version of either leaflet by clicking the relevant icons on the Tourism Home Page.
Travelling to the Hidden Valleys is easy; by car using the M1 via Junction 27; the local Trent Barton bus service which provides good links with Nottingham, Mansfield, Chesterfield and beyond; or the Robin Hood Railway Line offering frequent services to Nottingham. Please see "Transport and Streets" for further details of local transport.
The National Cycle Network runs through the heart of the Hidden Valleys on its way to Sherwood Forest along with a dense network of cycle paths.
Take yourself back in time by retracing the steps of D H Lawrence and Lord Byron and see the picturesque views and magnificent mansions that inspired their great literary writings. Visit the sleepy villages, and taste the excellent home cooking offered in the quaint public houses and restaurants, or enjoy a spot of shopping.
