Visitor's Guide
The District's three towns and numerous rural villages each offer unique and
diverse characteristics; rich in cultural, natural and industrial heritage.
Wonderful unspoilt countryside is complemented by country parks, offering a variety of visitor attractions. Ashfield also has an abundance of designated nature sites and way-marked footpaths.
Our rich industrial and cultural heritage includes textiles, mining and engineering, Lord Byron, Eric Coates, D. H. Lawrence, Ben Caunt, Harold Larwood and Morgan Kingston amongst others.
With so much to offer we feel that there is something for everyone in Ashfield.

Hidden Valleys
The Hidden Valleys area is a lush, undulating expanse of countryside to the
north of Nottingham, the historical gateway to Robin Hood's Sherwood Forest, and many forest parks still remain in the Hidden
Valleys landscape. The area is built around the bustling market town of Hucknall and the quaint surrounding villages of Jacksdale,
Underwood, Bagthorpe, Selston, Annesley, Ravenshead, Newstead, Linby and Papplewick.
The area boasts a fascinating heritage and great places of interest. All this, coupled with our literary heritage, makes the Hidden Valleys an attractive place to visit for all the family.
Conservation Areas
A Conservation Area is a special place that has been identified because of architectural or historical importance.
The designation allows the Authority greater control over any proposed developments, so such sites are able to keep their original charm and character.
