Ashfield District Council are responsible for the maintenance of the following functions:
- Potholes, patching, drainage, resurfacing, fencing, barriers
- Road marking / studs, trees, hedges, verges, emergency sweeping / repairs
- Street lighting, road signs, signals, bus shelters
- Winter maintenance: preventative salting, snow clearing, grit bins

Ashfield District Council also have agency responsibility for:
- Highway comments on planning applications
- Site supervision and adoption as Public Highway of private development infrastructure, public highway records
- Statutory undertakers of inspections relating to the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 click here for a transcript of the Act

- Skip / scaffold / highway excavations licenses
