Ashfield Lunch Clubs
Ashfield Lunch Clubs were set up for elderly people whose health and well being would benefit from social contact with others, healthy eating and other activities. This scheme was set up with the assistance of Age Concern.
Healthy Future for the Elderly
This project was set up for older people in association with the Ashfield Pensioners Action Association to maintain a programme of activities designed for older people to promote well being, fitness, better health, mobility and many other issues effecting this group of people.
Health Outreach Advice Sessions
This scheme was set up to establish outreach advice sessions to help residents whose health and well being could be suffering as a result of debt, poverty or other circumstances for which they need advice or help. This scheme was set up with the Ashfield Citizens Advice Bureau.
Health Promotion & Drugs Prevention
The Health Promotion & Drugs Prevention scheme was set up with Life Education Nottinghamshire using a proportion of the fund. It was set up to educate junior school pupils about the dangers of substance abuse and the benefits of personal health.
The Carers Support scheme was set up to develop the district wide support network to support carers of people suffering from mental illness. This project was set up in association with Rethink (the new name for the National Schizophrenia Fellowship) with help from specialised staff.
This project, in association with the Ashfield Primary Care Trust, was set up to develop a strategy aimed at reducing teenage pregnancy in the district.
Teenage Sexual Health
This project is closely linked with the Teenage Pregnancy project and is aimed to offer better information, advice and support to young people on relationship issues. As with the Teenage Pregnancy project, this project also is in association with the Ashfield Primary Care Trust.
Huthwaite Mobile Youth Project
The Huthwaite Mobile Youth Project was set up to deliver health related activities to young people around Huthwaite by using a suitable vehicle. This project was set up with the Huthwaite Community Action Group.
Ashfield GP Referral Scheme
The Ashfield GP Referral Scheme was set up to encourage people with physical or mental conditions to take more exercise in order to improve their health and well being. This project was set up with the Ashfield District Council to keep in line with Government health strategies.
Healthy Living Project
This project was established to provide a range of services, including social inclusion, childcare policies, routes to health improvement and individual support. It is targeted towards mothers and children, lone parents and other groups in the area. It was established in association with the Ashfield Women's Centre.
Coxmoor Parenting Project
This scheme was established to provide and develop a range of support mechanisms for families experiencing parenting difficulties, that are adversely affecting their general health and well being. The scheme will also try to improve those children's interpersonal behaviour and social skills, school attendance and educational opportunities. This scheme was established with Coxmoor Primary School and is aimed at families in the Coxmoor area.
Grow for Health
Grow for Health was set up to encourage people to organically grow their own fruit and vegetables on local allotments, by establishing a number of demonstration allotments around the District. Benefits of this activity include keeping fit, eating organically grown produce and saving money. This project was set up with Groundwork Cresswell, Ashfield & Mansfield to benefits all residents in the area.
Evaluation of Initiative
This scheme works jointly with Sure Start Ashfield to regularly monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of both schemes and advise on changes where necessary.
Management & Co-ordination of Initiative
This project manages the overall initiative and works closely with the New Opportunities Fund to ensure targets are met. It is in association with the Ashfield Links Forum.
